How to embroider hats on brother pr655
May is finally here and we have a lot to look forward to these coming months. From Mother's Day to graduation and several weddings! There is a lot of fun to be done. It also means the season of giving For me I enjoy making handmade gifts, it's one of the pleasures of being a maker. Because I have a lot of sewing to do, I like to design projects that are simple enough but also one-of-a-kind. That's why I love machine embroidery. For this post, I wanted to share tutorials on how to Monogram hats with machine embroidery using this Floral Monogram by Jennifer Brinley collection.
The designs feature each letter framed in a circular pattern with over 2 dozen colorful flowers. Add these to hats, towels, totes, robes, and more. What I like about these embroidered hats is they can be made for several occasions: bridal parties, teachers gifts, birthdays, and everything in between.
Add them to a themed basket and you have the perfect gift for just about anyone. Get the full tutorial below on how to machine embroider a baseball cap and a wicker sun hat:. You will have to flatten the brim a bit to get it to stay down.
Mark the center of the hat and the center of the design.
Place the cap onto the adhesive stabilizer matching the center lines. Pin into place on the outsides making sure the pins are not near the design. Adjust your design on the machine making sure the design is centered and won't hit the pins. The new Brother PE Embroidery system allows you to add multiple designs together. I love this so I can create the design all at once without software instead of going back after one design and redoing set up.
Here is another version with the circular frame and letter M. I love that you can add the floral designs wherever you'd like around the frame. My son wants to make these for each of his teachers. We are going to add them to a gift basket with a yeti and gift card for the end of the school year gifts.Set up cap frame driver - Brother PR embroidery series
I love embroidered sun hats for photo shoots, bridal parties, and vacations. You'd think the wicker may be a problem for machine embroidery but the needle does just fine sewing through the woven material.
Add these to a vacation themed gift basket embroidered towel, yeti, coozie, etc and it's a darling, one-of-a-kind gift.G53 g code

Embroidery can be the finishing touch to a knit hat. Due to the stretch and texture of knit, however, embroidering knit fabrics can be a challenge. With the proper backing and cover fabrics and the use of hooping, even knit hats can be given a professional-looking embroidery design.
Insert a sheet of medium to heavyweight tear-away fabric behind the knit surface to be embroidered. Set the hoop backing under the tear-away fabric.
Place the hoop top over the hoop bottom, stretching the knit fabric to the approximate pull it would have when worn. Do not overpull the fabric or leave it completely tight because this will distort the embroidered image when worn. Tighten the embroidery hoop in place. Place a piece of lightweight tear-away or melt-away fabric over the area where the image will be embroidered.
It should be at least 1 inch longer in each direction than the planned embroidery. Baste the top piece of tear-away or melt-away stabilizer in place so that it will not move when embroidered. Embroider the design onto the knit fabric that is sandwiched between the layers of tear-away fabric. Remove the hoop from the knit fabric. Tear away the back stabilizer fabric and then carefully tear away or melt the top stabilizing fabric with an iron.

Cart 0. Caps are one of the most profitable items that can be embroidered for resale. Use these tips to save you time and frustration, plus give you professional results every time. Finish one section of the design before going onto the next, if possible. Your embroidery design, for a standard cap, should not be more than 2. Try to keep all your designs, within the 2-inch-high range, for all of your caps. Make sure that the bottom of the design, is at least one-half inch up, from the seam where the cap front and the brim are sewn together.
If you are working on a stiff cap, the base of your letters may distort if you are sewing too close to the bottom of the cap. When you are hooping your cap, you must make sure that your cap facing is tight into the lip of the cap framing device. Make sure that your lettering is set up to stitch center out. If your lettering is not stitching center out, you will need to re-sequence the lettering. Always use cap backing when you are hooping your caps, regardless of how heavy or stiff your cap is.
This also will help to produce a higher quality embroidery design on your cap. If you are working with a stiff cap such as a Flex Fit cap; steam pressing the cap first softens up the backing and flattens out the top part of the cap. This makes the cap sit closer and flatter against the needle plate and helps to embroider designs on caps a lot easier.
May 29, by Victoria Okuniewski Share. Signup for our newsletters. Many commercial and semi-commercial machines have special hoops and drivers that accommodate the round shape of the hat.
These systems turn the hat from side to side as the cap is stitched. Instead of hooping the cap itself, you will hoop a stabilizer and then attach the cap to it. Here are the steps to embroidering a hat on a standard home embroidery machine:.
Because hats have a small stitchable area, you will need to choose a small design, or reduce the size of your design to fit the space available. To determine the area you can stitch on your hat, flatten the top front of the hat as much as possible and measure just the area you can press flat against the table.
Flattening or even inverting the brim of the cap if possible will allow you to get more of the top of the cap flat for embroidery. The more structured the hat is, the more difficult it will be to embroider.

Choose soft, unstructured caps for the best results. However, we can press more of the cap fabric flat toward the top of the cap than we can toward the bill, so if our design is wider at the top than at the bottom, we can get a slightly larger design. The best solution to maximize your embroidery area is to print a template of your design and audition it on your cap.Led panel meters
Most embroidery software programs will print a template of your design with a center mark so you can mark the center of your design on your project. As you can see, the design is larger at the top than at the bottom, but we can press the area to be embroidered flat against the table. Because you will not be hooping the hat itself, the first step to prepare the cap for embroidery will be to hoop the stabilizer. In most cases, it is easiest to work with a slightly larger hoop than needed for the design to give yourself some space to maneuver the hat during embroidery.
It is also generally easiest to embroider with the bill facing you at the embroidery machine, as this gives you the most control during the embroidery process. Hoop a piece of StabilStick — This is a peel and stick stabilizer. Hoop the stabilizer by itself with the paper backing side up, and then score the paper backing. Next tear away the paper backing, revealing the sticky stabilizer underneath. Mark the center of the hoop. You will be able to then attach your cap by pressing the area to be embroidered onto the stabilizer, aligning the marked center on your cap with the marked center on the stabilizer.
When your embroidery is complete, you can remove the excess stabilizer simply by tearing it away. Most hats will require a larger than standard needle for embroidery. Select the design and place the hoop on the machine, working carefully to be sure you do not dislodge the hat from the stabilizer in the process.
Thread cutters often cause the hoop to move, and this movement could hit the bill of your cap and dislodge the project. Do not use the basting function of your embroidery machine with a cap. The basting area forms a box around the design, and that box may extend past the embroider-able area of the cap even though the design fits within that area.
Once you are confident in the placement of your design, begin your embroidery. You may need to thread your needle manually, as the excess cap can get in the way of your needle threading mechanism.Caps and hats are particularly difficult and more prone to problems in quality. The best advice for creating the best embroidery is to slow down! For a typical hat design, a machine should run at about stitches per minute with a hat frame and around for a flat. Of course, this is just a suggestion.
Every design will be different. You should always slow your system down if a design has some intricate details or little letters. In cases of intricate embroidery designs, you can improve registration by slowing down to about stitches per minute for hat frames and stitches per minute for flats. Slowing down an embroidery machine will do it right the first time, as well as saving money by avoiding the wasted product.
Commercial embroidery, especially hats, will suffer when improperly hooped. Hats have to stay tight in the Durkee hoop ; it should stay straight and centered.
There will be times that a logo or design needs the embroidery slightly skewed to look good. Try to give these specialized products to your most experienced hoopers and embroiderers. Thread tension problems are the most common mistakes in commercial embroidery. Run regular thread tension checks or you will keep your complaint department working strenuously. Your commercial embroidery machine should always have the right thread tension, so logos and letters will keep looking crisp.
Check the thread tension every time you change bobbins. Do you wear a seatbelt when you drive? It is the same thing. Get into the habit of checking and it becomes second nature. A bobbin that is too loose or tight the quality of your embroidery will take the hit. The procedure is fast, easy and essential to consistent quality. There is no excuse not to do it every time!
There are no written-in-stone rules for changing needles on commercial embroidery machines. There are several factors, such as how many hours the machine runs, the type of material used and the quality of the needles.
A good habit is to check your needles at least weekly, replacing them as needed. Regular needle replacement is necessary, especially if the timing is off, and the needle does not synchronize with the movement of the bobbin case.Huawei keeps restarting
Not replacing a bent needle can scratch the bobbin case and make burrs, which then frays and breaks the thread. This chronic problem eats up production time. Embroidering a hat, the customer might ask for a lowered embroidery design placed next to the bill.
