Installation of the Ethernet SmoothStepper is meant to follow the order of the sections on this documentation page. Please follow this sequence and you should have a successful installation. Because it is a dedicated hardware device, it is capable of producing pulses at very high frequencies and with extremely low jitter compared to the Parallel Port driver and microcontroller-based solutions. My biggest motivation was the ability to use an ethernet cable instead of parallel. This meant I could run a much longer cable to where I needed the computer to sit.
